I know November isn’t over yet, but I’ve decided to conclude my NaNoWriMo. There are a couple of reasons for this. First of all, I don’t know what to add next. I already feel like a proportion of the words that I’ve written in the last few days may not be suitable, and that I added them more for the sake of writing extra words rather than furthering the story. At this point I feel that trying to write extra will just be more of the same.
On the other hand, the story I’m trying to tell is not a story that can be told in sixty-five thousand words, which means that (aside from what I don’t know may be missing) things currently happen either too quickly or too rapidly in succession. So I need to go back and review everything, but that may result in rewriting or removing things, rather than adding them.
I already started this review process yesterday, and as a result only added all of about a hundred words. To me, there doesn’t seem to be much point in including such in a NaNoWriMo. I haven’t reached my original goal, but I can’t complain about sixty-five thousand words.
Overall I’m happy with how this NaNoWriMo went. My goal now is to have a complete first draft by the end of the year. Maybe I’ll have something to show on this blog by then. We’ll see.
