Travel Updates and Excuses

Well, I’m Back

It’s been a smidgen over ten months, so this post is long overdue. I’ve been meaning to write it pretty much since day one, but one thing led to another, and the inexorable torrent of life has carried me further and further away. To be fair, I can’t deny that I haven’t been the most proactive in getting around to it either.

So yeah, ten months, what’s been up? I’ve traveled extensively, as I was on the threshold of at my last post. I finally finished my book, though whether anything comes of it I have yet to see. It’s nice to have that weight around my neck gone, though. And there have been a few other things as well, but I’ll get to them in due course.

The big one, obviously, was the travel. I intend to break it down into segments and go into them in more detail in individual posts, but to give you an idea, here is a list of the countries I have been in in the last ten months, in order:

England, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, USA, Uruguay, Falkland Islands, South Georgia, Antarctica, Argentina, Spain, Morocco, Portugal, Japan, and Australia.

That’s not including the return trips to places, like my several short trips back home to England or my second trip to Germany for Oktoberfest. Nor is it proportional, considering I spent considerably longer in certain places than in others. But I’ll cover all that once I get to the specific, individual posts.

That list also doesn’t include places where I was in transit, since I don’t consider that I’ve been to a country unless I leave the airport. Also, for anyone interested, that list covers all seven continents, although for me, I hit all seven visited when I reached Morocco, having already been to Asia and obviously Australia before.

There’s a lot more I could say about my travels, but I’ll save it for my later posts. Suffice it to say, it has been a life-changing, eye-opening experience, and while I admit that I reached a point towards the end where I ran out of steam, now that I’m back and have to return to ‘normal’ life I’m incredibly regretful that it couldn’t last for any longer.

Anyway, more to come, keep your eyes peeled.
