Dribble’s Grand Adventure – Episode 3 “Cave-Ins and Cave Lakes”

This is going to be a short one, partly because we were down a couple of players so ended the session early and partly because WordPress is being a nightmare and I don’t know how long I’ll have before it won’t let me save this anymore. That’s a large part of the reason this is so late – the other part being my website crashing earlier in the week, of course. Anyways, let’s get to it.

We began the session in the spider web tunnels, but after a little travelling finally got free of them. Our goblin guides bade us good luck at that point and left us to our own devices, so I took point again and we headed onwards.

After a little more travelling, we suddenly felt a rumbling. A giant screeching face came rushing at us out of the dark, blinding several party members, and in a sudden panic the entire group began to run. Bashing our way through light and darkness and rumbling, we ended up getting split up due to a cave in. The entire party plus four NPCs were on one side and the rest of the NPCs were on the other. With no way to reach them, we wished them luck and hoping we could perhaps find them again at a later date, strove on forwards.

It wasn’t too long after this that, after resting, that we came upon the Dark Lake – our goal destination. We spotted a damaged boat floating on the water, so I suggested to Dorne to throw me to it with a rope attached to me. He hammerthrowed me at the boat and though I collided with the side I managed to get aboard and attach the rope so the rest of the party could reel it to the shore.

We all climbed aboard the damaged ship, only to discover there was a survivor – an invisible duergar. He told us they had been attacked by a troll and promised us a reward if we got him to his home on the far side of the lake. Without the NPC with us who had been the reason we came to the lake in the first place, we agreed.

While sailing on the water, we ran into an issue. Qiris spotted some manta-ray-like-things following us in the water and decided to attack them as a deterrent, which just caused them to attack us back. They heavily damaged the boat as we fought them off – a fight that ended with Qiris and I attaching ropes to ourselves and the boat and jumping into the water to blast the ones attacking the bottom of the hull.

With the boat heavily taking water, we made an emergency landing on a tiny island in the middle of the lake. The duergar began attempting repairs with the help of my Unseen Servant and then we settled down for the night. I took second watch and rolled poorly for my perception, so it wasn’t until I was basically on top of them that I found a troll biting one of our NPC’s heads off – but it was alright, he was the dislikeable NPC. I froze upon seeing it, it raised its head and looked at me, and then… we ended the session.

So, a bit shorter of a session, though not without some excitement. My personal favourite part was the hammerthrow – it’s exactly the kind of thing I imagined when I came up with Dribble and I hope many more such happenings are to come. Assuming we don’t get killed by the troll, that is.

If you want to find out how that goes, make sure to tune in next week. Shouldn’t be as long of a wait for the next episode. I hope.
